Library 2.0 and Searching for the Perfect Interface

Let’s be real for a second, library catalogs as a rule suck. I don’t care if vendors add the latest web 2.0 flavor of the month. It is still going to be a library catalog. This is my open question to my professions (librarian and tech geek). How do we make information accessible to everyone, regardless of format, location, and skill level?

Here is a visualization of the new art books in our collection. I am using TiltViewer and scanned images of our print books uploaded to flickr. Even with the inclusion of the call number, this alone won’t replace the catalog, but it does make our holdings more attractive to look for.

Thanks to Ms. Anderson for introducing me to TiltViewer.
